Description: This work interrogates the semiotics of everyday urban infrastructure through the recognisable form of Australia Post mailboxes. Positioned within the visual field as both object and symbol, the mailbox operates as a metaphor between private and public spheres, embodying systems of circulation, exchange, and connectivity. The juxtaposition of the saturated red and yellow surfaces against a muted, almost archival black and white background foregrounds the tension between visibility and anonymity. These structures function as silent custodians of personal narratives: facilitating communication while preserving distance and confidentiality. Through processes of repetition, fragmentation, and subtle distortion, the work destabilises the perceived neutrality of institutional design, prompting a reconsideration of how communication embraces our daily life, regulates interaction, and shapes personal and collective experience within contemporary Australian society.
