Research & Social Impact
The research and social impact approach of Art Connecting Communities is informed by the SASHA Framework, which positions contemporary art as a tool for human connection, personal development and community strengthening.
Art Connecting Communities is informed by the understanding that creativity can contribute not only to cultural participation, but also to a meaningful and purposeful life. Drawing on Erich Fromm’s concept of purpose and positive orientation, the methodology recognises the importance of having an aim that gives direction, motivation and a sense of vitality to everyday life.

It also draws on the Stoic philosophy of Seneca, particularly the idea that happiness and wellbeing is cultivated through the way we live each day: through self-reflection, purposeful action and the continuous development of one’s character. From this perspective, happiness is not understood as a permanent state, but as an ongoing practice of becoming a better version of oneself.

Within this framework, creative practice becomes a practical space for purpose, reflection, learning and connection. Participants are encouraged to set goals, experiment, overcome creative challenges, reflect on their experiences and recognise their own capacity for growth.
The social impact of Art Connecting Communities is therefore measured not only through participation or number of artworks, but through the quality of connections created, increased confidence and creative agency, cultural exchange, reduced isolation, and participants’ sense of belonging and personal development.

The central proposition is simple: when people have a reason to interact, a safe space to create and a community to connect, creativity becomes a pathway towards greater purpose, resilience and wellbeing.
