Golf through Creative Lens
New way to see your course
A golf course is more than a place to play. It is a living space of trees, grasses, flowers, water, wildlife, plus changing light and seasonal colours. Golf Australia recognises that courses can provide an important habitat, protect biodiversity and create opportunities for environmental education. (GOLF.com.au)
Golf Through a Creative Lens invites members to slow down and look more closely at the nature and wildlife around them turning the golf course into a place of artistic observation, exploration and discovery.
1. Vision
Golf Through a Creative Lens aims to help golfers see their familiar course from another perspective and discover its beauty, character and natural diversity through contemporary art.
What happens when we stop simply playing on course and start observing it?

2. Why it matters
Golf courses are living environments, often supporting native vegetation, wildlife and important green space. (Golf Australia)
Creative observation can encourage members to notice details they may normally pass by: the changing colours of the seasons, different kinds grasses and plants, birds and insects, reflections on water, textures of bark and leaves, and the relationship between the designed course and the natural landscape.

3. Program Objectives
The program aims to:
* develop a deeper visual awareness of the golf course and its natural environment;
* encourage curiosity about local plants, trees, grasses and wildlife;
* explore seasonal change through artistic observation;
* introduce accessible contemporary drawing, painting and mixed-media practices;
* create a visual record of the course and its changing landscape.

4. Who it is for
Designed for golf club members of all ages and artistic experience. No previous art experience is required: curiosity and interest are enough.
The program can also involve club staff, environmental groups or local community partners where appropriate.

5. Program Structure
The program can be delivered as a short creative experience, seasonal series or longer visual documentation project, tailored to the club, its landscape and member interests.
Examples of tailored program formats are available on request.
Possible activities include:
A Year on the Course — creating a visual diary documenting the landscape through the four seasons.
The Botanical Course — observing and drawing local trees, grasses and flowers, with the possibility of creating botanical studies, herbariums and mixed-media collages.
Wildlife on the Course — sketching birds, insects and other animals that share the golf course environment.
Plein Air Sessions — taking art outdoors to paint and sketch fairways, greens, water, trees and views in the fresh air and enjoyable atmosphere.
Textures & Forms — exploring bark, leaves, grass, sand bunkers, water hazards, shadows and other overlooked details through drawing, printmaking and collage.

6. Expected Outcomes
For members
Greater observation skills, creative confidence and new appreciation of the landscape they encounter every time they play.
For the club
A distinctive visual record of the course and its natural character, potentially creating artworks for the clubhouse, member exhibitions or club archives.
For the community
Greater awareness of the environmental and cultural value of golf-course landscapes and the biodiversity they can support. (GOLF.com.au)
For the environment
The program can complement existing club sustainability and biodiversity initiatives by turning environmental observation into an engaging member and community experience.

7. Partnership opportunities
Art Connecting Communities can work with golf clubs to develop a program around their particular landscape, environmental priorities, history and member interests.
The program may also complement existing biodiversity, sustainability or education initiatives at the club.

8. Bring the beauty into focus and invite Golf Through a Creative Lens to your club
Your members already spend hours on course.
