Drive to Fine Art

Bringing creativity, connection and community beyond the golf course

Drive to Fine Art is a creative community program designed specifically for golf clubs.

It brings club members together in a different setting – through art, conversation, shared experiences and the simple joy of creating together.

Golf clubs are more than places to play. They are communities built around friendship, shared activities, competition, encouragement and a common passion. Drive to Fine Art adds another dimension to that community by transforming the clubhouse into a creative and social space.

Through professionally facilitated artistic workshops, members are invited to explore drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and other contemporary creative practices.

No previous art experience is required.

The emphasis is on participation, experimentation, conversation and the experience of creating together, not just creating a perfect artwork.

Drive to Fine Art sets a question :

What happens when we take the connection created on the golf course and bring it into a creative space?

1. Vision

The vision of Drive to Fine Art is to expand the role of the golf club beyond the course, creating new opportunities for members to connect, participate, learn and express themselves.

Golf already creates strong social bonds. Members share rounds, competitions, celebrations, wins and experiences. Creative practice can add another layer to these relationships.

The clubhouse can become not only a place to meet before or after a game, but a place where members make, experiment, discover new skills and create memories together.

Drive to Fine Art sees creativity as a natural extension of club culture.

It shapes an environment where members can meet people they may not normally interact with, reconnect with playing partners away from the course and discover aspects of themselves and each other through creative practice.

The ultimate vision is a golf club where sport, creativity and community coexist.

2. Why it matters

A golf club is a community.

Its strength is built not only through sporting participation, but through relationships: friendships, shared experiences, encouragement and a feeling of belonging.

Yet members’ opportunities to connect can often remain centred around the game itself.

Creative activity provides a different kind of social experience.

It offers members time away from competition and performance, creating a relaxed environment in which people can experiment, talk, learn and make something together.

Art also brings an unusually inclusive activity.

Members of different ages, abilities and levels of golfing experience can participate. Creative workshops can also provide an opportunity for members who are temporarily unable to play golf because of health or other circumstances to reconnect with their playing partners and club community.

This is where golf and art have more in common than might initially seem.

Connection

Both can bring people together and create opportunities to share stories and experiences.

Inclusion

Art can provide an accessible activity for members with different abilities and levels of sporting participation.

Wellbeing

Creative activity offers time away from competition and everyday pressures and encourages curiosity, experimentation and self-expression.

Identity

Members can explore places, stories, memories and experiences connected to their golf journey and club.

Club culture

Creative projects can become part of the club’s social calendar and create memorable shared experiences that strengthen inclusion.

Drive to Fine Art therefore isn’t about delivering “art classes” to a golf club.

It is creative way for a golf community to connect and become stronger.

3. Program objectives

Drive to Fine Art aims to:

  • bring club members together beyond the golf course;
  • foster friendships and social connections within the club;
  • create inclusive opportunities for participation and development;
  • introduce members to contemporary artistic practices;
  • encourage creativity, curiosity and experimentation;
  • provide opportunities for self-expression;
  • create a relaxed environment away from competition and performance;
  • connect personal stories and memories with the club culture and golf experience;
  • encourage members to discover new interests and skills;
  • strengthen the social and cultural identity of the club;
  • create artworks and memories that can become part of the club’s collective story.

The program is shaped around participation rather than artistic perfection.

4. Who it is for

Drive to Fine Art can be adapted for a broad golf-club community.

Women’s Golf Clubs

A creative social experience aiming to strengthen connections among women members and create opportunities to meet beyond regular golf activities.

Mixed Golf Clubs

A collaborative program bringing together members across ages, backgrounds and levels of golfing experience.

New Members

An informal and engaging way for new members to meet others and become part of the club community.

Life Members

An opportunity to explore new interests, reconnect with fellow members and create something that contributes to the club’s story.

Members Temporarily Unable to Play

Creative activities provide an alternative way to remain socially connected to the club and fellow golfers.

Student & Junior Golf Communities

Creative programs can introduce younger members to art, club culture and alternative forms of self-expression.

Club Committees & Leadership Groups

Bespoke creative experiences can be designed around team building, club culture, celebrations or strategic events.

The program can also be adapted for special club events, Women’s Day, club anniversaries, competitions, achievements, member celebrations and a broader social calendar.

5. Program structure

Drive to Fine Art is tailored to the character, calendar, membership and priorities of each golf club.

Creative themes, duration, frequency, group size, location and materials can be adapted to suit the club and its members.

Workshops can be delivered as a short creative series, a term-length program, a special event or an ongoing part of the club’s social calendar. Typical workshops run for approximately 2–2.5 hours, with around 8–15 participants, using professional-quality art materials in a suitable clubhouse or club space.

Examples of tailored program formats are available on request.

6. Expected outcomes

For a member as a person

Drive to Fine Art gives club members an opportunity to step outside their usual routines and try something new.

Participants can develop:

  • greater creative confidence;
  • new artistic and practical skills;
  • opportunities for self-expression;
  • greater curiosity and willingness to experiment;
  • new social connections;
  • stronger relationships with fellow club members;
  • deeper appreciation of personal memories and experiences;
  • stronger sense of participation in club life;
  • tangible creative record of their golfing experience.

Members may discover a creative side they have never previously explored or simply enjoy a fascinating process with people they already know.

The value is rooted in the experience of making together.

For a golf club as an institution

Drive to Fine Art gives a golf club an opportunity to broaden its member participation and strengthen its identity as a social community.

The program can support clubs in:

  • enriching the social calendar;
  • increasing member engagement;
  • creating inclusive activities beyond golf;
  • strengthening relationships between members;
  • welcoming new members into the community;
  • providing alternative activities for members who cannot currently play;
  • creating memorable experiences;
  • contributing to a distinctive club culture;
  • celebrating club milestones and anniversaries;
  • creating artworks that can be displayed in the clubhouse.

A collaborative artwork can become a permanent activity in the clubhouse, while a series of golf-inspired works can create a visual archive of the club’s history and collective memory.

For the community through strengthening connection

Drive to Fine Art creates another social engagement within the club.

Members who normally meet only on course can spend time together in a different setting. People who have never played together can discover shared interests. Stories about golf trips, competitions, favourite courses and club experiences can become the starting point for creative work and friendship.

The result is a stronger sense of connection built around something accessible, enjoyable and non-competitive.

The program can also extend participation to people who may not currently be able to play golf, helping them remain connected to their club and community.

For the broader community – creating a culture of participation

Golf clubs have the potential to function as important community spaces.

Drive to Fine Art can open that space to new forms of participation, bringing together sporting, social and creative experiences.

Through workshops, collaborative artworks and exhibitions, the club can create opportunities for members to learn, express themselves and contribute to a shared cultural story.

For the state as stronger, more connected communities

Strong communities are built through participation.

They grow when people have places where they can meet, experiment, learn new skills and form meaningful relationships.

Drive to Fine Art contributes to the community-building role by using a familiar institution – golf club – as a platform for creative participation.

Grant funded programs

The program can also be structured around government and council community-grant opportunities. Depending on location, eligibility and funding rounds, grants may potentially contribute to artist fees, coordination, venue costs, professional materials and other project expenses.

This creates the possibility of making professionally facilitated programs more accessible to club members, including subsidised or zero-fee participation where appropriate grant funding is secured.

Stronger clubs create stronger connections, and stronger connections contribute to stronger communities.

7. Partnership opportunities

Drive to Fine Art can be developed in partnership with golf clubs and wider community networks.

Develop a creative program around the club’s members, interests, social calendar and culture.

Women’s Golf Groups

8. Bring Drive to Fine Art to your golf club

Imagine members creating together after years of playing together.

A golf story transforms into a painting.

A favourite course is captured in a sketch.

A club anniversary turned into a collective artwork or collage.

A group of members discovering printmaking for the first time.

A clubhouse wall showcasing an artwork created by people who belong to the club.

These are more than art activities.

They become shared experiences, new friendships and part of the club’s collective story.

Drive to Fine Art gives golf clubs a new way to connect their members through making, conversation, creativity and joy.
