Art Connecting Communities is grounded in the principle that contemporary art can function not only as a form of creative expression, but also as a social methodology for strengthening relationships, fostering inclusion and contributing to a positive social change.

This philosophy is articulated through the SASHA Framework:

The SASHA Framework positions contemporary art as a catalyst for human connection and community development. It provides a conceptual and practical foundation for designing creative programs that encourage participation, dialogue, cultural exchange and collective learning, while responding to the social and cultural diversity of contemporary Australia.

Art Connecting Communities is Sasha’s flagship initiative, bringing together a range of creative programs developed for universities, local councils, sporting clubs, museums, libraries, charities, businesses and community organisations.

Each program is informed by the SASHA Framework and uses contemporary art as a vehicle for community strengthening, lifelong learning, cultural participation and wellbeing. Through collaborative making, artistic dialogue and shared creative experiences, participants are encouraged to exchange perspectives, develop meaningful connections and engage with different creative processes and techniques.

The methodology recognises art as a space for interaction rather than simply an end product such as artwork. By creating opportunities for collaboration, reflection and conversation, Art Connecting Communities seeks to reduce social isolation, support inclusion, celebrate cultural diversity and strengthen relationships across generations, communities and cultural backgrounds.
