Description: This work extends Sasha’s exploration of national identity through the visual language of repetition and everyday cultural symbols. Drawing on imagery developed through her artistic practice, the composition centres on the familiar motif of Vegemite toast - an object adopted within Australian domestic culture and collective memory. Arranged in a slightly distorted grid on the background, the repeated Vegemite jars function as both formal device and conceptual strategy. This seriality recalls Pop Art methodologies, elevating a banal, consumable item into a subject of cultural reflection. Through repetition, the work suggests that national identity is not fixed, but continually produced and reinforced through recognisable visual symbolic. The smaller scale introduces a more intimate mode of viewing, shifting the encounter from monumental to personal. The use of acrylic print on canvas highlights the intersection between digital image circulation and material form, reflecting the work’s movement between industrial seriality and human made. Putting on canvas a Vegemite toast as both icon and signifier, Sasha puts up a question how identity is constructed through consumption, nostalgia, and repetition, positioning it as a dynamic and continually reproduced cultural code.
