About the artist

Alexandra Nosova | Sasha is an Australian contemporary artist, cultural activist and social program facilitator based in Melbourne. Her multidisciplinary practice encompasses printmaking, painting, collage and socially engaged art projects. Sasha’s work combines creative practice with academic research, transforming everyday experiences into visual metaphors that explore identity, culture, memory and existence.

Having an academic background in fine art and humanities, Alexandra integrates critical research methods into contemporary creative practice. Her work employs diverse disciplines, materials and processes, resulting in projects that are personal, collaborative, experimental and deeply connected to the communities in which they are rooted.

Today, Sasha is recognised in Melbourne for her contribution to both contemporary art and community-based creative practice. She develops a growing portfolio of social projects Art Connecting Communities united by the central philosophy that art has the power to connect people, strengthen communities and inspire a positive social change.

Beyond the acronym, SASHA is a concept of using contemporary art to strengthen human connections, encourage inclusion and build healthier, more resilient communities across Australia.

Art Connecting Communities

Sasha is the founder of Art Connecting Communities – a flagship project bringing together a range of creative programs for universities, local councils, sports clubs, museums, libraries, charities, businesses and community centres.

Every program is guided by the SASHA Framework, using contemporary art as a tool for community strengthening, lifelong learning, cultural participation and wellbeing through an artistic dialogue. By encouraging collaboration, creative thinking and meaningful conversations, these initiatives reduce social isolation, celebrate diversity and strengthen relationships across generations and cultures.

Professional Practice

In addition to her studio practice, Sasha actively contributes to Melbourne’s arts community through workshops, artist talks, public engagement and collaborative social initiatives. She regularly facilitates creative programs at the Russian House in Melbourne, golf clubs and community organisations, supports events at the RMIT School of Art as an alumna.

Alexandra has exhibited extensively in local and international museums, galleries and commercial spaces since graduating from the College of Fine Arts in 1997. Throughout her career she has received numerous awards, grants and artist residency opportunities supporting both her creative practice and community engagement.

Previously, Alexandra worked as Creative Director of Community Russia Magazine and curated exhibitions, art festivals and charity auctions in Moscow, as well as international cultural projects during the Cannes Film Festival in France. Her works are held in museum, corporate and private collections, including the Saatchi Gallery in London, MoMA Moscow, Artbank Australia and numerous private collections.
